I’ve been thinking… if I could give myself one thing for the new year, it wouldn’t be something fancy or complicated. It would be something simple, the ability to dance like no one is watching. And honestly, I know that probably sounds like the lamest New Year’s resolution ever… but don’t judge me lol.
Music has always been a healer for me. Some songs don’t just play; they hit you right in the soul. The ones that make you chair-dance without realizing it. The ones that make you forget all the noise and stress for a few beautiful minutes.
But tell me what’s the first thing you feel when you suddenly realize you’ve been completely lost in one of those songs? For me, it’s always the same panicked thought:
“OMG… who just saw that?”
And that right there… that’s what I want to leave behind this year.
I want to go back to the girl who jumped out of the car in the rain, blasted the music, and danced without a single care about who was watching. I want to live free from shame, judgment, and guilt, especially the kind I put on myself.
Because somewhere along the way, I stopped living for joy… and started living inside other people’s expectations.
I let the opinions of unhappy, rigid, joy-shaming people shrink me. The ones who roll their eyes when someone dares to feel free, alive, or happy out loud. And honestly… why should any of us live our lives to the beat of someone else’s boring, judgmental drum?
So this year, I’m done apologizing for being myself.
I’m bringing back the laughter, the messy joy, the silly moments, the soaking-wet dancing-in-the-rain kind of living.
Because if my happiness annoys someone?
Well… I’ll just fly my freak flag a little higher.
